Matchmaker FAQ

Deadline extended till noon October 29th, 2019! You must be a Certified WBE with a valid VIP Conference ticket to participate.

Q: What is Matchmaker and when is it?

A: Matchmaker is a one-on-one meeting between a corporate buyer and certified WBE business representative. WBE Canada’s 2019 Matchmaker is hosted in Toronto on Friday November 15th, 2019.

Q: Who is eligible to participate in 2019 Matchmaker?

A: Being eligible means that your company has a valid certification with WBE Canada as of November 1st, 2019 and you purchased one VIP Conference & Gala ticket for your company before October 11, 2019. Eligibility does not guarantee you a 1:1 Matchmaker meeting.

Q: Does WBE Canada guarantee matches to WBEs who purchase VIP tickets?

A: No. We can not guarantee matches for WBEs. Your VIP ticket grants you Early Bird pricing to our Conference & Gala and a table at our Tradeshow. Matchmaker is complimentary (no added fee) and your meeting is not guaranteed. Corporate buyers will have final say to choose vendors they want to meet as well as number of meetings they want to have with vendors.

Q: Can a WBE request a meeting with a Buyer?

A: Matchmaker is a buyer driven program. Even though WBEs can request meetings, such meetings are not guaranteed and will be assigned based on the buyer request. It is very important that your company profile is current with appropriate NAICS codes and company description.

Q: How does Matchmaker work?

A: Certified WBE suppliers will receive an invitation to fill out their profile in our app and ping companies with whom they want to connect. Corporate buyers will have the opportunity to accept or decline the meetings. Filling out the profile in our app does not guarantee you a Matchmaker spot. Spots are assigned based on corporate selection.

Q: What is the structure of Matchmaker meetings?

A: All meetings will start and end at the designated time. You will have 15 minutes to present your pitch, ask questions and engage in conversation. This will be followed by a 5 min. break. Then we’ll do another round. This way all the buyers and suppliers will have enough time to switch between the meetings.

Q: How do I prepare for Matchmaker event?

A: This is your time to convince the buyer to take your company to the next level, so do your homework! Every company is different, convince them that your company can meet their specific needs because you understand what those needs are. Be on time! WBEs who arrive late, will not be allowed to enter the 1:1 Matchmaker meeting room. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your meeting to check in and be seated in the holding room.
